Community Gathers for PATHS HS Black History Month Event in East New York

Performing Arts & Technology High School (PATHS) will once again spotlight student creativity and cultural expression with its annual Black History Month show, taking place Friday, February 27, 2026, at the TJC Auditorium in East New York. The program, titled “Our Story: The Power of Black Excellence,” runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 5:00 PM, and brings together students, families, and community members for an evening centered on history, artistry, and pride. A Night of Student Performances The annual showcase features performances by several PATHS student groups, including: • PATHS Theatre • PATHS Modern Band • PATHS Dance • PATHS Vocal Through music, movement, and dramatic storytelling, students explore themes of Black history, resilience, and achievement, using the performing arts to connect past struggles with present expression and future possibilities. Honoring History Through the Arts The Black History Month show has become a signature event for PATHS, serving as both a tribute and a platform for student voices. This year’s theme emphasizes excellence and self-expression, highlighting how young artists interpret cultural legacy through their craft. “This show is about more than performance — it’s about pride, identity, and empowerment,” said Mrs. Jones, teacher of PATHS Dance. “Our students pour their hearts into this production. Through dance and the arts, they are telling stories of strength, creativity, and excellence that deserve to be seen and celebrated by the entire community.” Community Invited to Attend The event is open to the public, with admission set at $10 for adults and $5 for students and children under 7. Families, alumni, educators, and residents of East New York and nearby neighborhoods are encouraged to attend and support the student performers. Held at the TJC Auditorium, located at 400 Pennsylvania Avenue, the evening is expected to draw a wide audience for what has become a meaningful annual celebration of culture, talent, and unity within the school and the broader community. Student Groups Shine Onstage

The performance lineup includes acts from:

  • PATHS Theatre group
  • PATHS Modern Band
  • PATHS Dance
  • PATHS Vocal ensemble

The students will bring Black history, perseverance, and success to life through dance, music, and theater, telling powerful stories that link past legacies to contemporary expression and future goals.

Celebrating Black History Through Creative Performance

The PATHS Black History Month event is a cherished tradition, giving students a stage to honor heritage and amplify their voices. This year’s focus on Black excellence highlights personal growth and community pride through various artistic disciplines.

“We want the community to know this show represents much more than talent; it’s about storytelling, pride, and encouragement,” explained Mrs. Jones, PATHS Dance teacher. “Our students deliver moving performances, sharing narratives of hope, culture, and pride worthy of the spotlight.”

All Are Welcome

Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for students and children under 7. Residents, families, former students, and faculty from East New York and surrounding communities are urged to attend and cheer on the participants.

The TJC Auditorium at 400 Pennsylvania Avenue will welcome a large audience for an uplifting annual gathering, celebrating unity, the arts, and cultural achievement within the school and the broader neighborhood.
