In collegiate sports news from New York City, Medgar Evers College’s indoor track and field teams captured several CUNYAC honors for the week of January 5 to January 11. Leading the haul was Brianna Lindo, who was named both Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week. Reco Griffith (Track Athlete), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete), and Pharell Fowler (Honorable Mention) were also recognized for their efforts.
Wesleyan Invitational Results Drive Honors
These accolades were a result of impressive performances at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut, on January 10, where Medgar Evers athletes racked up conference qualifying marks, new personal bests, and set school records.
Lindo Rewrites 60-Meter Hurdles Record
Brianna Lindo made her mark with a 9.38 in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing third and earning CUNYAC/AARTFC qualifications and a new school record.
Further, she placed fourth in the 60 meters (8.30, PB and CUNYAC mark) and was eighth in the 200 meters at 27.77 (27.35 converted), adding yet another CUNYAC qualifying result.
Lindo Qualifies In Jumps And Weight Throw
Lindo’s field event prowess included a 1.45-meter (4’9″) effort in high jump for CUNYAC qualification, a 4.30-meter (14’1.25″) leap in long jump, and a standout weight throw of 9.11 meters (29’10.75″), her personal best and fifth-best in program history.
Griffith Opens Strong With Sprint Titles
Reco Griffith began his 2026 campaign by taking the 60-meter title in 6.99 seconds (CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying), and finished second in the 200 meters at 23.07 (22.67 converted) for another CUNYAC qualifier.
Hinds Jumps To New School Record
Omari Hinds cleared 1.95 meters (6’4.75″) in high jump, netting CUNYAC/AARTFC qualifying, a personal record, and a new program mark. He also jumped 6.09 meters (19’11.75″) in long jump for 11th and posted 11.08 meters (36’4.25″) in the triple jump for 12th.
Fowler Claims Honorable Mention In Breakout Meet
Pharell Fowler’s weekend featured a second in the 60 meters (7.10, CUNYAC-qualifier and PB), third in the 200 meters (22.76 converted for fifth-best at Medgar Evers), and a strong showing in the 400 meters.
Looking Ahead For The Cougars
Medgar Evers College returns to action Saturday, January 17, traveling to the Gregory Field House in New London, Connecticut, for the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational. Start times are pending announcement.
