Medgar Evers College’s indoor track and field squads earned a plethora of CUNYAC weekly accolades from January 5-11 in New York City college athletics. The highlight was Brianna Lindo capturing both Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week. The Cougars also claimed honors with Reco Griffith (Track Athlete), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete), as well as Pharell Fowler (Honorable Mention).

Honors Stem From Wesleyan Invitational Success

The recent awards were fueled by top performances on January 10 at the Wesleyan Invitational, held in Middletown, Connecticut, where Medgar Evers athletes reached conference qualifiers, set personal records, and broke program marks.

Lindo Breaks 60-Meter Hurdle School Record

Lindo was a multi-event standout, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.38 clocking, a new college best that qualified her for CUNYAC and AARTFC.

She also finished fourth in the 60 meters at 8.30, posting a CUNYAC qualifier and PB, and in the 200 meters took eighth in 27.77 (27.35 converted) for another qualifying spot.

Lindo Notches Marks In Field Events

Lindo also had success off the track, clearing 1.45 meters (4’9″) in the high jump for a CUNYAC mark and landing a 4.30-meter (14’1.25″) long jump. Her best field performance came with a personal record 9.11 meters (29’10.75″) in the weight throw, ranking fifth all-time for the college.

Reco Griffith Dominates Sprints In 2026 Opener

Reco Griffith kicked off the 2026 season with a win in the 60 meters (6.99, CUNYAC/AARTFC qualifiers) and a runner-up finish in the 200 meters at 23.07 (22.67 converted, CUNYAC qualifier).

Hinds Raises The Bar In High Jump

Omari Hinds set a school record by clearing 1.95 meters (6’4.75″) in the high jump, securing CUNYAC and AARTFC bids and a new personal best. He was 11th in the long jump (6.09 meters/19’11.75″) and 12th in the triple jump (11.08 meters/36’4.25″).

Fowler Shines, Earns Honorable Mention

Pharell Fowler’s breakout included a second place showing in the 60 meters (7.10, CUNYAC-qualifying PB), third in the 200 meters (22.76 converted, fifth in program history), plus an appearance in the 400 meters.
