The Bearcats women’s swimming team kicked off their CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) campaign with a dominant win over John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Thursday, December 11, setting the tone early and never looking back during the meet.
Starting with the initial medley relay and closing with the night’s final event, the Bearcats claimed every race except those classified as exhibitions at John Jay.
Standout Swimmers Lead the Way
Several members of the Bearcats stood out by winning multiple events:

Kira Chen collected three victories in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 100-yard backstroke.

Allyse Alexander tied with Chen by placing first in the 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly.

Kaetlyn Chavez swept all distance categories, capturing wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and 100-yard freestyle.

Ashley Leal notched two firsts in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle.

After an impressive start in conference play, the Bearcats face the Final Exam Break next. The squad will regroup and compete again on January 5 at York College, launching a packed January schedule.
