Long Island University kept its Northeast Conference start spotless on Sunday, going wire-to-wire in a 74-55 road victory over Chicago State.

LIU Brooklyn (8-7, 2-0 NEC) built early momentum and pushed the lead to as many as 11 points in the first half, but Chicago State (2-13, 0-2 NEC) made a push midway through the period, trimming the deficit to 23-21 with under six minutes remaining.

The response was immediate. The Sharks closed the half with a strong finish, outscoring the Cougars 14-6 down the stretch to take control heading into the break.

Goings’ Three Settles It Early In The Second Half

Any hope of a second-half swing was quickly quieted. Just over a minute into the final period, junior Jomo Goings knocked down a three-pointer to make it 42-31, and LIU maintained a steady double-digit cushion the rest of the way.

Fuller Leads The Way On Both Ends

Graduate student Jamal Fuller delivered a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds, anchoring LIU’s effort on both ends. Goings finished with 15 points, while senior Greg Gordon and junior Faheim Meran chipped in 11 points apiece to give the Sharks four players in double figures.

Fuller also set the tone defensively, leading LIU with two blocks and two steals. See the Full Box Score here.
