As families across Southeast Brooklyn continue facing rising housing costs, taxes, tolls, and everyday financial pressures, Jaime Williams says her priority remains protecting the quality of life and affordability of the communities she represents.
Williams, whose district includes Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, Georgetown, Marine Park, and Gerritsen Beach, has continued to center much of her work around issues impacting homeowners, renters, seniors, and working families trying to remain in the neighborhoods they helped build.
Addressing Political Misinformation
The Assemblymember recently addressed misinformation being circulated by political opponents and activists through an official statement distributed via NYC Newswire. Williams said the attacks reflected what she described as desperate attempts by opponents to use misinformation because they could not attack the work she has done throughout the community on affordability, constituent services, and neighborhood issues.
“The fact that some people are trying to label me a Republican because I refuse to play political games shows just how disconnected they are from the real concerns of residents in this district,” said Assemblymember Jaime Williams. “I am a Democrat, I did not endorse Curtis Sliwa, and my record clearly shows that my focus has always been fighting for the people of Southeast Brooklyn.”
Williams said residents throughout the district are far more focused on affordability, neighborhood stability, and public safety than political distractions or online narratives.
“My job is not to become a social media personality or influencer,” Williams said. “My job is to legislate, fight for residents, and protect the people who live in this district from policies that could make life even more unaffordable, in real life.”
Focus on Homeowners and Renters
Throughout her time in office, Williams has spoken out against policies she believes place additional financial burdens on working-class families, particularly residents in outer-borough communities who depend on vehicles for commuting, caregiving, and employment. She has also consistently emphasized the importance of balancing development with community concerns.
“I have consistently fought to keep costs lower for homeowners and renters alike,” Williams said. “That includes fighting against higher taxes, unfair tolls, rising fees, and policies that could increase rents throughout our communities.”
Supporters say Williams’ focus on affordability continues to resonate with residents concerned about rising costs and maintaining stability in Southeast Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Supporting Responsible Development and Homeownership
Williams said she supports responsible development that expands affordability while also protecting opportunities for long-term homeownership and generational stability.
“I support development when it is done responsibly and with the community in mind,” Williams said. “We need affordable rents, but we also need to protect and expand homeownership opportunities, especially for Black and brown families. Homeownership remains one of the strongest ways families create generational wealth and stability for future generations.”
Williams said her campaign and community work will continue prioritizing constituent services, affordability, quality-of-life issues, and policies that protect both renters and homeowners from further economic strain.
Keeping the Focus on Community Issues
“Times are too serious for distractions and fast-talking political personalities,” Williams said. “Families in Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, and Gerritsen Beach want elected officials who are focused on affordability, public safety, quality of life, and protecting the future of these neighborhoods.”
