In New York City college sports, Medgar Evers College’s indoor track and field teams secured a notable share of CUNYAC honors for the week spanning January 5 to January 11. The Cougars were led by Brianna Lindo, who claimed both the Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards. Additional weekly accolades went to Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and Pharell Fowler (Honorable Mention).

Awards Highlight Performance At Wesleyan Invitational

These recognitions were driven by outstanding showings on January 10 at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut, where Medgar Evers athletes achieved conference-qualifying, personal-best, and program-record marks.

Brianna Lindo Establishes School Record In 60-Meter Hurdles

Lindo put forth an impressive, multi-event effort, earning third place in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.38 finish. This not only secured CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifications but also set a new school record at Medgar Evers College.

She grabbed fourth in the 60 meters (8.30) for a CUNYAC qualifying time and a personal best, while taking eighth in the 200 meters at 27.77 (27.35 converted) for yet another CUNYAC mark.

Lindo Garners Qualifiers In Jumps And Throws

Lindo’s appeal spanned beyond sprints: she cleared 1.45 meters (4’9″) in the high jump to qualify for CUNYAC, participated in the long jump with 4.30 meters (14’1.25″), and delivered a top field event by throwing a personal best 9.11 meters (29’10.75″) in the weight throw, the No. 5 mark in Medgar Evers history.

Reco Griffith Starts 2026 With Sprint Victories

Reco Griffith began the 2026 season by winning the 60 meters with a 6.99, earning CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks, and snagged second in the 200 meters at 23.07 (22.67 converted) for another qualifiers.

Omari Hinds Sets High Jump Program Mark

Omari Hinds marked the week with a standout 1.95-meter (6’4.75″) clearance in the high jump, nabbing CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifiers, a school record, and a personal best. He was 11th in the long jump (6.09 meters/19’11.75″) and 12th in triple jump (11.08 meters/36’4.25″).

Pharell Fowler Gets Honorable Mention After Strong Outing

Pharell Fowler made a notable impact by placing second in the 60 meters (7.10, CUNYAC qualifier/personal best), third in the 200 meters (22.76 converted, fifth all-time in school history), and competing in the 400 meters.

Upcoming For The Cougars

Medgar Evers will next compete on Saturday, January 17, at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational at Gregory Field House in New London, Connecticut, with start times to be announced.
