In New York City college sports Medgar Evers College’s indoor track and field teams took home a major share of CUNYAC honors for the week of January 5 through January 11, led by Brianna Lindo, who was named Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week. The Cougars also earned awards for Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and Pharell Fowler (Honorable Mention).

Awards Follow Strong Showing At Wesleyan Invitational

All of the honors were powered by standout performances on January 10 at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut, where Medgar Evers athletes delivered conference-qualifying marks, personal bests, and program records.

Brianna Lindo Sets School Record In 60-Meter Hurdles

Lindo turned in a dominant, multi-event performance highlighted by a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. She ran 9.38, earning CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks while also setting a new Medgar Evers College school record.

She also placed fourth in the 60 meters, posting an 8.30 for a CUNYAC qualifier and a personal best, then followed with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters in 27.77 (27.35 converted) to add another CUNYAC qualifying mark.

Lindo Adds Qualifiers Across Jumps And Throws

Lindo’s versatility extended beyond the track. In the high jump, she cleared 1.45 meters (4’9″) for a CUNYAC qualifying mark. She also competed in the long jump, recording 4.30 meters (14’1.25″).

Her most notable field result came in the weight throw, where she posted a personal best of 9.11 meters (29’10.75″), a mark that ranks No. 5 all-time in Medgar Evers College program history.

Reco Griffith Opens 2026 With Sprint Wins And Qualifiers

Reco Griffith opened the 2026 indoor season with a strong sprint double. He took first place in the 60 meters with a 6.99, earning CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualifying marks. He backed it up with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 23.07 (22.67 converted) for another CUNYAC qualifier.

Omari Hinds Breaks School Record In High Jump

Omari Hinds delivered one of the most impactful field performances of the week, highlighted by a 1.95-meter (6’4.75″) clearance in the high jump. The jump earned CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualifying marks, set a new Medgar Evers College school record, and marked a personal best.

Hinds also earned a CUNYAC qualifier in the long jump, placing 11th with 6.09 meters (19’11.75″), and competed in the triple jump, placing 12th with 11.08 meters (36’4.25″).

Pharell Fowler Earns Honorable Mention After Breakout Meet

Pharell Fowler continued his strong collegiate start with a productive weekend. He finished second in the 60 meters with a CUNYAC-qualifying personal best of 7.10, then placed third in the 200 meters with a 22.76 converted time that ranks No. 5 all-time in Medgar Evers College history. Fowler also competed in the 400 meters, showing range early in his career.

What’s Next For The Cougars

Medgar Evers returns to competition on Saturday, January 17, traveling to the Gregory Field House in New London, Connecticut, for the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational. Start times are to be announced.
