St. Joseph’s University, New York (Brooklyn) junior guard Mercedes Perez, who came to the program from San Antonio, Texas after playing at William Howard Taft, was selected to the All-Skyline Conference Second Team on Tuesday. The league office released the honors list ahead of this week’s conference tournament.
Perez ended the year as the Skyline’s No. 2 scorer at 18.0 points per game, finishing behind Merchant Marine standout Carolae Barton, the conference Player of the Year. From long range, Perez was the league’s most prolific shooter, leading the Skyline with 84 made three-pointers and an average of 3.36 triples per contest. She also ranked seventh in assists with 80.
Consistency defined her season: Perez scored in double figures in all 25 games. She posted a career-high 36 points in a road win over Mount Saint Vincent—also the highest single-game point total by any Skyline player this season. She reached the 20-point mark 11 times, including 29 in the opener versus Medgar Evers, 26 against Yeshiva, and 21 points plus 10 rebounds against Farmingdale State for her lone double-double of the campaign.
The recognition is the first postseason award of Perez’s career and the program’s first since Destiny Hurt ’24 earned second-team honors in 2023–24.
The Bears closed the season at 11–14, their highest win total since 2022–23 and the most victories in a single season under head coach Joe Giacchi.
