Terra is betting that Sheepshead Bay diners shouldn’t have to travel to Manhattan for a polished night out. The modern European restaurant was founded by longtime best friends and Sheepshead Bay natives Oleg Rybak and Dmitry Khavko, who set out to create an upscale experience that still feels approachable for the neighborhood.
Rybak, an oenophile and attorney, and Khavko, a whisky enthusiast and finance professional, say the concept grew out of a simple gap: high-quality dining options nearby were limited, and the kind of restaurants they wanted usually required a long trip. Terra is their answer—rooted in their tastes, and in the community they call home.

The restaurant’s executive chef is Dima Martseniuk, a Ukrainian native who moved to the U.S. in 2009 and built a culinary career that began in New York. He rose to executive chef at Veselka, earned a Grand Diploma from the French Culinary Institute, and later opened Ruta in 2022 in Washington, D.C., where he cooked for high-profile guests and earned international recognition for his borscht.
Terra is also leaning heavily into its beverage program. The restaurant says its wine list includes more than 600 varietals, curated by Wine Director and General Manager Guillermo Lesassier, with the goal of pairing a bottle to just about any dish.
