{"id":6002,"date":"2019-04-24T12:54:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T17:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/multi.nycnewsnetwork.com\/nyforseniors\/new-york-citys-largest-health-systems-to-hire-over-1000-nurses-and-raise-wages\/"},"modified":"2019-04-24T12:54:28","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T17:54:28","slug":"new-york-citys-largest-health-systems-to-hire-over-1000-nurses-and-raise-wages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nycnewsnetwork.com\/nyforseniors\/new-york-citys-largest-health-systems-to-hire-over-1000-nurses-and-raise-wages\/","title":{"rendered":"New York City&#8217;s Largest Health Systems To Hire Over 1,000 Nurses And Raise Wages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The standoff between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysna.org\/\">New York State Nurses Association<\/a> and New York City&#8217;s three largest health systems,\u00a0Mount Sinai, Montefiore and New York-Presbyterian, ended with the hospitals agreeing to spend $100 million to hire 1,450 nurses, and increase wages by 3%.<\/p>\n<p>See the message below from the NY State Nurse&#8217;s Association.<\/p>\n<p>Recently a tentative agreement (TA) was reached with the formerly &#8220;Alliance&#8221; New York City hospitals of Mount Sinai, Mount Sinai West, St. Luke&#8217;s, New York Presbyterian, and Montefiore.<\/p>\n<p>The TA includes a $100 million commitment for additional staffing, allowing for hundreds of additional nurses to be hired in these hospitals.<br \/>\nA detailed summary will follow, but highlights of the TA include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>Enforceable Staffing Ratios:<\/strong>\u00a0We have finally achieved the goal of having staffing ratios spelled out in the contract with a meaningful enforcement mechanism. This sets a standard not just for New York, but for the nation.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0<strong>Four Year Agreement:<\/strong>\u00a0Our agreement ensures staffing, security, and strength for the next four years, expiring Dec. 31, 2022.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0<strong>Industry Leading Wage Increases:<\/strong>\u00a0With minimum wage increases of three percent (3%) in each year of the contract including retro, we have secured industry leading wages for our profession.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0<strong>Retiree Health Benefit<\/strong>s: For all facilities, we were able to achieve benefits, allowing members to maintain health benefits after early retirement (subject to key conditions).<\/p>\n<p>Several other agreements were reached on priority issues at the local bargaining tables. This agreement was only achieved through the unity of thousands of nurses, exercising our power to win for our patients, our communities, and ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>This agreement is subject to ratification.
