The most common types are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Heart Failure<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">congestive heart failure, is when the heart pumps weaken and no longer deliver enough blood and oxygen to the body\u2019s cells. Heart failure is extremely common, with one in five Americans developing it in their lifetime. The disease is incurable, but manageable. According to the American Heart Association, symptoms include: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shortness of breath<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constant wheezing or coughing <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excess swelling in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feet, ankles, legs, or abdomen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiredness and fatigue<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nausea and lack of appetite <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confusion, impaired thinking, or memory loss<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increased heart rates (palpitations)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Arrhythmia<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the change in the normal rhythm of the heartbeats. The heartbeat can either be irregular, erratic, or too slow. Arrhythmia can either be brief and harmless or continuous and life threatening. Continuous arrhythmia can cause the heart to pump less effectively. According to the American Heart Association, symptoms can include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fatigue and dizziness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightheadedness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fainting or near-fainting spells<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rapid heartbeats or pounding<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shortness of breath<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chest pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In extreme cases, collapsing and sudden cardiac arrest<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Heart Valve Problems<\/strong><b>, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or MVP, are caused by issues with the heart valves. Heart valves, along with the heart chamber, move and circulate the blood in the heart. MVP can include <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stenosis<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when the valve does not open enough to allow the blood to flow through; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regurgitation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when the valves don\u2019t fully close and allow for blood to leak through; and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mitral valve prolapse<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when two valve flaps of the mitral valve do not close properly and allow small amounts of blood to leak, which causes heart murmurs. According to the American Heart Association, symptoms include: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chest pain <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightheadedness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fatigue<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sensation of feeling the heartbeat <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shortness of breath with activity or when lying flat<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How To Help Prevent Heart Disease <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most heart disease prevention steps are simply keys to a healthy lifestyle. Key factors to follow are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eating a healthy, well balanced diet.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This means eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, especially greens, whole grains, fish, and lean meats.
