Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever, affects most of us and has no cure. Fortunately, there are ways to fight off your hay fever. Here we explain why we get allergies and what we can do to treat them \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Do We Get Seasonal Allergies?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allergies are caused by the immune system\u2019s reaction to non-dangerous substances, such as pollen or dust. In the spring, more people suffer from hay fever because of the pollen in the air. The most common symptoms are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sneezing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stuffy and\/or runny nose<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Itchy and\/or watery eyes <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Itchy or irritated skin or throat<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other less common symptoms can include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issues breathing (common in those suffering from Asthma) <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fatigue<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss of appetite <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nausea <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frequent headaches<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hives<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to control and treat seasonal allergies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before treating seasonal allergies, always consult with a doctor first. There are many over-the-counter medications that can be used to lessen allergy symptoms, but they can cause other more bothersome symptoms, such as blurred vision, palpitations (fast heart beat), or bladder issues. Certain medications can negatively impact pre-existing conditions, such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, cerebrovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease. Medications should only be taken with a doctor&#8217;s recommendation first.<\/p>\n<p>There are some ways to help allergy symptoms naturally. The top three to always remember are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To exercise regularly and maintain a well-balanced diet. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To sleep with your head elevated on a pillow to prevent a stuffy nose.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drink lots of fluids throughout the day, which helps loosen the mucus inside the nose and throat. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional remedies to try include: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using steam to help clear out a stuffy head and nose. This can be done with a store-bought steam inhaler, but an easier and cheaper option is either holding your face over a bowl of steaming water or just taking a hot, steamy shower. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using eucalyptus oil. If you ever used Vicks Vapor Rub, then you know what eucalyptus smells like. If not, eucalyptus is an essential oil that has a strong, piney scent that opens up a stuffy head. Put a few drops into steaming water to help clear up congestion. (Never consume or apply to skin)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Drink tea.
