Judge Juliet P. Howard<\/strong>, a respected member of the Kings County Housing Court, has officially launched her campaign to serve as Judge of the Kings County Civil Court in Brooklyn\u2019s 6th Municipal District. The district includes neighborhoods such as Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Crown Heights, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Kensington, and Midwood.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Campaign Built on Fairness and Community<\/span><\/h2>\n

Judge Howard was appointed to the Housing Court bench in 2021. She brings over 25 years of experience in public interest law.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her candidacy has already earned strong professional backing. The New York City Bar Association\u2019s Judiciary Committee recently rated her \u201cApproved.\u201d They cited her fairness, depth of experience, and commitment to justice when giving this rating.<\/span><\/p>\n

Justice That Listens<\/span><\/h2>\n

While making her <\/span>campaign announcement<\/span><\/a>, Judge Howard emphasized that citywide races often grab the headlines. However, these local judicial elections are the ones that will have a direct impact on everyday New Yorkers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile much of the focus this election season will be on the Mayor\u2019s race, local judicial elections are equally important,\u201d Howard said. \u201cThe Civil Court is where many of our neighbors turn for help with housing, family, and small claims matters. Every Brooklyn resident deserves a fair and compassionate judge who listens and understands their challenges.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

From Harlem Roots to the Brooklyn Bench<\/span><\/h2>\n

Howard is a Harlem native raised in Sugar Hill. She credits her grandmother and mother for helping to shape her sense of justice and service. Her mother had a 45-year career in the Civil Court system, which introduced Judge Howard to the power of empathy and access to justice from an early age.<\/span><\/p>\n

She earned her B.A. from Barnard College, J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and M.F.A. in Creative Writing from The City College of New York. Before being appointed to the Kings County Housing Court, Howard worked for The Legal Aid Society\u2019s Civil Division and as a court attorney for the New York State Unified Court System.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advocating for Access and Equity<\/span><\/h2>\n

Judge Howard is also co-chair of the Kings County Subcommittee of the NYC Equal Justice Implementation Committee, where she works to eliminate bias and promote diversity in the courts.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has been widely recognized for her patient, accessible approach, ensuring that even the most vulnerable litigants understand their rights.<\/span><\/p>\n
