The project will create 83 new units on the Jacobi Hospital campus in the Bronx, including 58 permanent supportive studio apartments for formerly incarcerated people with chronic medical needs and 24 affordable units available through NYC Housing Connect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Speaker Adrienne Adams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> praised the initiative, calling it \u201ccritical to public safety and confronting the housing crisis,\u201d according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nycnewswire.com\/news\/nyc-oks-senior-housing-defines-eviction-harassment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The project includes on-site social services and 24-hour staffing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strengthening Tenant Protections<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lawmakers also passed a bill from Council Member <\/span><b>Sandy Nurse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that expands the definition of tenant harassment to include unlawful evictions. The measure requires the city\u2019s housing department to study whether a landlord\u2019s history of illegal evictions should affect their ability to participate in housing programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIllegal eviction is abuse, and our city\u2019s definition of harassment must reflect that,\u201d Nurse said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another bill from Council Member <\/span><b>Julie Menin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aims to boost participation in the city\u2019s Senior Citizen and Disability Rent Increase Exemption programs by requiring proactive notifications to tenants, landlords, and designated third parties.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanding Worker and Community Support<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Council approved legislation expanding how workers can use earned safe and sick time, including for childcare, caregiving, or responding to public disasters. It also mandated greater transparency in afterschool programs, requiring annual reporting on enrollment and demographics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Council Member <\/span><b>Kevin Riley<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who sponsored the afterschool reporting bill, said it would ensure families \u201chave clear, accessible information about the programs available to them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Climate and Sustainability Measures<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recognition of Climate Week, Council Members advanced three bills strengthening environmental planning.
