New York City Public Advocate candidate and Bronx Conservative Party Vice Chairman <\/span>Gonzalo Duran<\/b> held a press conference on Saturday, warning about what he described as a \u201crising tide of socialism\u201d in the city. Speaking in the Bronx, Duran argued that socialist policies could harm the borough and the city as a whole, taking aim specifically at Democratic mayoral candidate <\/span>Zohran Mamdani<\/b>, who identifies as a Democratic Socialist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Duran, who calls himself a moderate conservative, said his message is not just for Republicans and Conservatives, but for all New Yorkers concerned about the city\u2019s future. \u201cStopping socialism,\u201d he said, \u201chas helped bring us together with a shared purpose.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Conservative Leaders and Candidates Join the Rally<\/span><\/h2>\n

The event drew leaders from the Bronx Conservative Party, the New York Young Republican Club Bronx Caucus, and the United Alliance Party, as well as community leaders, civic advocates, and residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several City Council candidates also addressed the crowd: District 11 candidate <\/span>Denise Smith<\/b> criticized current education policies, saying they have contributed to a decline in academic performance. District 8 candidate <\/span>Tyreek Goodman<\/b> discussed housing and economic fairness, while District 16 candidate <\/span>Emmanuel Findlay Jr.<\/b> focused on job creation and employment justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christopher Reid<\/b>, chairman of the New York Young Republican Club Bronx Caucus, echoed Duran\u2019s concerns and offered sharp criticism of Mamdani\u2019s platform.<\/span><\/p>\n

Call for Political Unity<\/span><\/h2>\n

Duran emphasized the years he has spent building connections among Conservatives and Republicans across New York City. He credited this coalition-building to tangible actions rather than rhetoric.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBringing Conservatives and Republicans together across the city took years of effort,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd earning the trust of groups like the New York Young Republican Club required more than words\u2014it required action and results.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Duran said his goal is to bridge the political divide further by reaching out to Democrats disillusioned with current leadership. He highlighted a recent endorsement from former Queens Civil Court judge candidate <\/span>Dr. Julie Milne<\/b>r, noting that more Democratic support may be on the way.<\/span><\/p>\n
