Atlantic Avenue, long considered Brooklyn’s historic “Main Street,” is poised for a significant transformation under a proposed rezoning plan that could bring approximately 4,600 new homes to the area. The New York City Council is scheduled to vote on the plan Wednesday, which covers a one-mile stretch spanning Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and Bed-Stuy. This rezoning initiative is not just about adding housing; it’s about revitalizing a vital commercial corridor and strengthening the surrounding communities. By encouraging development in underutilized areas, the plan aims to create a more vibrant and dynamic neighborhood. A key aspect of the rezoning plan is its focus on affordable housing.
