The fund, which was launched in November 2024, aims to connect East Brooklyn residents with career pathways in construction, the green economy, and other growing industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Five Award Recipients<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the announcement of the award recipients, <\/span><b>NYCEDC President &amp; CEO Andrew Kimball<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said, \u201cAs the city continues to make significant investments into the equitable growth of East Brooklyn, it is essential that the local workforce is well equipped and connected to both the existing and newly-created jobs of tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nycnewswire.com\/news\/press-release-5-groups-win-east-brooklyn-workforce-fund\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the five organizations receiving the awards are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Brighter Opportunity through Trade<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is working to expand a welding training and certification program in partnership with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/lambo-mechanical-inc\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lambo Mechanical<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Imagine That.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brownsvillethinktankmattersinc.com\/\"><b>Brownsville Think Tank Matters<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is working to launch a construction upskilling program alongside Monadnock Construction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/impacctbrooklyn.org\/\"><b>IMPACCT Brooklyn<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who are working to launch workforce development programs in entrepreneurship and real estate\/property development. They are partnering with BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers, Community Mediation Services, and Urbane Development on this project.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ldceny.org\/\"><b>Local Development Corporation of East New York<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will use the funds for operational investments in programs that connect East Brooklyn residents to career pathways tied to development at Broadway Junction and the Innovative Urban Village Construction Academy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/obtjobs.org\/\"><b>Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will be launching an iteration of their Renewable Energy &amp; Sustainable Construction pre-apprenticeship program, but in East Brooklyn.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Praise From Local Council Members<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was high praises all around after the announcement was made. \u201cI am thrilled to continue helping strengthen and preserve East Brooklyn&#8217;s businesses through the East Brooklyn Workforce Development Fund,\u201d said <\/span><b>Council Member Sandy Nurse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThis $1.4 million is an investment in East New Yorkers and our workers. It will extend successful programs to East Brooklyn and help train more people to serve in both legacy and new, sustainable industries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Council Member Chris Banks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> added, \u201cThese award recipients possess strong track records centered around the engagement of local stakeholders through programs that benefit the local community in an equitable manner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Citywide Effort to Support Economic Development<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workforce development is a cornerstone of the broader revitalization of the Broadway Junction area. NYCEDC has invested $130 million in public space improvements and infrastructure upgrades around the station, including two new public plazas and streetscape enhancements.
