Trump as its 47th President of the United States on Tuesday, a resounding victory for the former president that was ousted by Joe Biden in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, there were several notable tight races in Brooklyn. Republican Steve Chan won against incumbent Democrat Iwen Chu in state Senate District 17, which covers portions of Sunset Park, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Bensonhurst, by capturing 55% of the vote to Chu&#8217;s 45%, according to the unofficial results by the\u00a0<a class=\"ga ga-ext\" href=\"https:\/\/vote.nyc\/?utm_source=bkreader&amp;utm_campaign=bkreader%3A%20outbound&amp;utm_medium=referral\" rel=\"noopener\" data-ga-category=\"OutboundLink\" data-ga-action=\"OutboundLink\" data-ga-label=\"https:\/\/vote.nyc\/\">city Board of Elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Results are still unofficial in the race for Assembly District 45, which covers portions of Midwood, Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, Gravesend\u00a0and Sheepshead Bay. Democrat Joey Cohen-Saban currently has 49.32% of the votes, while incumbent Republican Michael Novakhov has 50.2% with 98.92% of votes scanned.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent Democrat Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who represents parts of south Brooklyn and Staten Island, declared victory as she captured 54.69% of the votes while opponent Marko Kepi, a Republican, took 44.86%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Republican Alex Brook-Kransy won back his seat against challenger Chris McCreight, a Democrat,\u00a0in the 46th Assembly District, which includes parts of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Coney Island.<\/p>\n<p>City voters also approved Propositions 1 &#8211; 5, which includes the Equal Rights Amendment, but did not approve Proposition 6, which would have created a new Chief Business Diversity Officer position at City Hall, reorganize film permitting procedures, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the results from the Nov. 5 election for Brooklyn voters:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>U.S. President and Vice President<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Donald J. Trump and JD Vance; Republican Party, Conservative Party<\/p>\n<p>Trump captured 292\u00a0electoral votes and\u00a071,833,30 of the popular vote, while Vice President Kamala Harris took\u00a0224 electoral votes and\u00a066,943,293 popular votes, according to the <a class=\"ga ga-ext\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/?utm_source=bkreader&amp;utm_campaign=bkreader%3A%20outbound&amp;utm_medium=referral\" rel=\"noopener\" data-ga-category=\"OutboundLink\" data-ga-action=\"OutboundLink\" data-ga-label=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/\">Associated Press<\/a>\u00a0as of mid-day Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In New York City, Harris captured over 1.7 million votes, while over 786,000 people voted for Trump. Brooklyn voters favored Harris, and there were over\u00a048,000 write-in candidates, according to the city Board of Elections.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>State Senator<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Kirsten E. Fall; Democratic Party<\/p>\n<h3>Six Ballot Proposals<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pass: Proposal 1, Protecting A\u00a0New Yorker&#8217;s Fundamental Right\/Equal Rights Amendment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposal prohibits discrimination based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability and sex \u2013 including sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, and abortion rights \u2013 by enshrining these rights in the state constitution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass: Proposal 2, More Enforcement And Regulation By The Sanitation Department<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposal would amend the City Charter to expand and clarify the Sanitation Department&#8217;s power to clean streets and other\u00a0city property and require disposal of wast in containers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass: Proposal 3, Additional Estimates Of The Cost Of Proposed Laws And Updates To Budged Deadlines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposal would amend the City Charter to require discal analysis from the City Council before hearings and votes on laws, authorize fiscal analysis from the mayor, and update budget deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass: Proposal 4, More Notice And Times Before Votes On Public Safety Legislation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposal would require additional public notice and time before the City Council votes on laws respecting the public safety operations of the Police, Correction and Fire Departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass: Proposal 5, Capital Planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This proposal would amend the City Charter to require more detail in the annual assessment of city facilities, mandate that facility needs inform capital planning and update capital planning deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fail: Proposal 6, Minority And Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBES), Film Permits And Archive Review Boards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This proposal would amend the City Charter to establish a Chief Business Diversity Officer, authorize the mayor to designate the office that issues film permits and combine archive boards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kaya Laterman American voters elected Donald J.
