Yosef Gottlieb, owner of\u00a0Gottlieb\u2019s Restaurant<\/a>\u00a0in Williamsburg, passed away Thursday, hours ahead of a scheduled visit by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to a social media post from the headquarters of the Hasidic Satmar sect.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of R\u2019Shalom Yosef Gottlieb OBM (75) owner of the beloved Gottlieb\u2019s Restaurant in Williamsburg. Funeral details at our Shul to follow Please note that the @realdonaldtrump visit to Gottlieb\u2019s is canceled #RIP,\u201d the\u00a0post on X<\/a>\u00a0read.<\/p>\n

The news of Gottlieb’s death was first reported by the\u00a0Yeshiva World News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A man who picked up the phone at Gottlieb\u2019s this morning, who said he worked with the family, said the death \u201cwas a real tragedy, we weren\u2019t ready for that at all\u2026 he was a great guy, he came in every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said Gottlieb\u2019s will be closed for seven days as the family sits shiva, a week-long mourning period in Judaism.<\/p>\n

Gottlieb\u2019s is a staple in Williamsburg\u2019s Hasidic community, and has been serving chicken liver, pastrami sandwiches, goulash and other Kosher dishes to locals and tourists since 1962.<\/p>\n
