Major Citi Bike Expansion Reaches More Neighborhoods<\/b><\/h2>\n

New York City is making significant strides toward sustainable transportation with a major expansion of Citi Bike, the city\u2019s popular bike-share program. Beginning in fall 2025, Citi Bike will expand service across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, while adding more docking stations in high-demand areas of Manhattan. This growth aims to improve transportation access and support eco-friendly travel throughout the city.<\/p>\n

New Neighborhoods Join Citi Bike Network<\/b><\/h2>\n

The latest expansion will bring Citi Bike service to several new communities:<\/p>\n

\u2022Bronx:<\/b> Norwood, Riverdale<\/p>\n

\u2022Brooklyn:<\/b> Brownsville, East New York, Kensington, Bay Ridge<\/p>\n

\u2022Queens:<\/b> Areas west of Flushing Meadows Corona Park<\/p>\n

Additionally, high-traffic neighborhoods such as Midtown and Downtown Manhattan, Harlem, East Harlem, Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Park Slope will receive new docking stations to meet rising demand.<\/p>\n

Strengthening NYC\u2019s Transportation Network<\/b><\/h2>\n

Citi Bike has become a critical part of New York City\u2019s transit system, with over 44 million rides logged this year. The upcoming expansion will add more than 250 new stations<\/b> and 2,900 bikes<\/b>, half of which will be electric. Once complete, Citi Bike will serve 5.6 million New Yorkers<\/b>\u2014about 64% of the city\u2019s population<\/b>\u2014within a five-minute walk of a station.<\/p>\n

\u201cCiti Bike is more popular than ever because it\u2019s convenient, sustainable, and a quick way to get around,\u201d said Ydanis Rodriguez, New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner. \u201cWe thank Lyft for this investment and look forward to working with them on these important program improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since its launch in 2013, Citi Bike has expanded from 6,000 bikes and 332 stations<\/b> to a projected 36,000 bikes and 2,400 stations<\/b>, marking nearly seven times its original size<\/b>.<\/p>\n

City and state officials have praised the expansion for its environmental and economic benefits:<\/p>\n

Innovations and Greater Accessibility<\/b><\/h2>\n

The expansion will also introduce kioskless docking stations<\/b> for more flexible bike returns and pickups. To improve affordability, the city has expanded Fair Fares NYC<\/b> eligibility and provided free MetroCards<\/b> for Summer Youth Employment Program participants, along with free two-month Citi Bike memberships<\/b>.<\/p>\n

These initiatives align with broader sustainability goals, such as electrifying school buses and the city\u2019s vehicle fleet.<\/p>\n
