Real PEOPLE of East New York<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Alice Judge-Thrower\u2014Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One life can significantly impact so many people\u2014for Alice Judge-Thrower (aka Ms. Tammi), that number would be 400. For over ten years, Judge-Thrower has run the New Wave Dance Youth and Community Development, Inc., a nonprofit that offers instruction in extracurricular physical activities like African cultural dance, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Praise Dance, and Majorette. The overarching mission is to support youth ages three to eighteen by giving them an opportunity to express themselves through dance.<\/p>\n

Broadening the Horizons of East New York’s Youth<\/h3>\n

Many of the children who come through this program have little access to activities like the ones offered by New Wave due to their economic status. According to the CDC, nearly half of American youths aged 12-21 years are not vigorously active on a regular basis. This program is looking to improve these numbers in the East New York community by allowing the youth to excel at creativity while also improving their physical health.<\/p>\n

Also, Judge-Thrower ensures that New Wave even goes beyond dance to offer students resume assistance and interview practice. In turn, she uses the art and power of dance\u2014an artform she was exposed to as a child\u2014 as well as a holistic and personalized approach to each child’s development to enrich the lives of the youth growing up in the East New York area.<\/p>\n

The Impact of a Native Daughter<\/h3>\n

What makes Judge-Thrower’s impact so special is that she is committed to improving a community she has strong ties to. She was born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. She stayed in the New York area for her undergraduate degree to receive her BBA in computer information systems from Baruch College in 1999. Her ambition drove her to continue her education to acquire her MBA and MPA in 2005 and 2011, respectively.<\/p>\n

Again, Judge-Thrower has used her talents\u2014honed through years of education and training\u2014to make an impact that is exponential in the East New York community. Through the work she has done, she has ensured the East New York community has access to book bag drives, toy drives, mother-daughter tea party socials, Kwanzaa celebrations, empowerment workshops, and various other happenings that enrich the community.<\/p>\n

From New Wave to NYC Health + Hospitals<\/h3>\n

However, Judge-Thrower gives back to East New York in another powerful way. In addition to her work with New Wave, she is also the director of human resources for Enterprise Information Technology Services at the NYC Health + Hospitals Network. Her work in this role has led to her receiving the 2020 Performance Improvement Champion for NYC Health and Hospitals Award.<\/p>\n

Whether she is supporting New York City’s hospitals or giving the youth of East New York an opportunity for creativity, Judge-Thrower is an excellent example of someone who is using their skills to improve the community around her.<\/p>\n

Someone gave her a creative outlet, and she is now in a position where she can give back and help youth find their voice, passion, and chance to express themselves through the art of dance. In short, her work is helping to develop healthy and creative leaders of tomorrow.<\/p>\n
