The Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens (NHS Queens<\/a>) marked the opening of its new headquarters, “La Casita,” in Elmhurst this Monday, featuring a visit from U.S. Representative <\/span>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a><\/b>. On September 2, the organization officially took possession of its new space at 94-33 Corona Avenue, thanks to $2.4 million in federal community improvement funding secured through the FY 2023 appropriations process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents from Jackson Heights, Corona, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, East Elmhurst, and Long Island City have benefited from NHS Queens’ housing and financial guidance services for more than three decades. With its new headquarters, the organization is ready to grow its impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

Expanded Offerings at \u201cLa Casita\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n

The updated facility will host programs in financial literacy, credit repair, workforce development, and provide counseling for foreclosure prevention and first-time homebuyers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ocasio-Cortez stated that the new base will ensure even more New Yorkers receive essential housing resources, emphasizing NHS Queens’ established commitment to supporting local families and at-risk groups.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am proud to have helped secure $2.4 million in federal funding, giving NHS Queens a lasting home,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez shared. \u201cNHS Queens is a cornerstone in our community, assisting thousands to keep their homes and find employment. \u2018La Casita\u2019 means expanded services for even more residents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A Major Achievement for NHS Queens<\/span><\/h2>\n

NHS Queens’ Executive Director <\/span>Yoselin Genao Estrella<\/a><\/b> described the new headquarters as a sign of resilience and promise for the neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur new headquarters will not just house our mission \u2014 it will serve as a guiding light for residents of Queens and New York City at large,\u201d said Genao Estrella.<\/span><\/p>\n
