The first annual Brownsville Health & Wellness Family Day was a success, with families, schools, health organizations and community stakeholders coming together for a day of exercise, movement, healthy eating and fun.<\/p>\n

\"\"The event was created in partnership with Healthy NYC<\/a>, Chris Legree<\/a>, and the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School<\/a>, as a way to bring the community together in order to spread the message about healthy living, which includes exercise, healthy food choices and community fun.<\/p>\n

PATHS Dance<\/a> (Performing Arts & Technology HS @ Thomas Jefferson Campus) opened the day with a dance performance to kickoff the event.\u00a0 Activities included double dutch, rollerskating by Skaterobics<\/a>, group exercise by Alwayz Fit 4 Lyfe<\/a>,\u00a0 and performances by a group from Eleven Sixty Six<\/a>, and the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School step team.<\/p>\n

The Melting Pot Foundation’s, Brownsville Community Culinary Center<\/a> provided healthy foods and Tahee Brew Teas providing delicious iced tea that cleanses the body.<\/p>\n

\"\"Health organizations that supported the event included EmblemHealth<\/a>, AdvantageCare<\/a>, UnitedHealthCare<\/a>, and New York Therapeutic Communities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other community partners included Elite Learners<\/a>, Pretty Powerful Girls<\/a>, MPACT and Mo Better Leadership Academy.<\/p>\n

Community stakeholders who were present at the event included, Assemblywoman Latrice Walker<\/a>, Chris Legree<\/a> (Brownsville District Leader candidate), Judge Lisa Ottley<\/a>, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, Van Dyke Houses TA President Lisa Kenner, Tilden Houses TA President Miss Boone, and Howard Houses TA President Miss Johnson.<\/p>\n
