\u201cThis decision is rooted in health as well as equity. Data show that white and wealthy parents are more likely to have job flexibility or to hire independent caregivers, while these options may not be the same for Black, Brown and low-income families,\u201d stated Dr. Oxiris Barbot.\u201dWe don\u2019t want any New Yorker to have to choose informal or illegal child care; every child deserves a safe place where they can learn and grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Childcare centers are not mandated to open on July 13, but can open if they are ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of work has been done in the past few weeks to prepare,\u201d de Blasio said. \u201cIt\u2019s important to tell people that child care centers will open as soon as Monday because for a lot parents this will be very important to their plans.\u201d<\/p>\n
