The craft industry has been boomin\u2019 in the last few years with\u00a0throwbacks to crafts that your grandma probably did<\/a>, but brands like\u00a0Subversive Cross Stitch<\/a>\u00a0have been doing a good job of reinventing them with a sly wink and a dose of pop culture. TLC has its\u00a0Craft Wars<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reality show – hosted by Tori Spelling, and\u00a0Spelling now has her own line of\u00a0craft products<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But this is Brooklyn, and we don\u2019t need Tori Spelling telling us how to make things.\u00a0Etsy<\/a>\u00a0started in Dumbo\u00a0and the\u00a0Brooklyn Flea<\/a>\u00a0is filled with new talent every weekend.\u00a0Whether you want to start your own Etsy shop or just make a Mother\u2019s Day gift, Brooklyn is loaded with places to learn sewing, knitting, jewelry making, weaving, woodwork and more. \n<\/strong>Skillshare features an abundant list of classes in various specialties such as jewelry-making, beginner crochet, needlepoint pattern making, digital textile design and bookbinding. \n3rd Ward has quickly become an artists\u2019 hub that functions as both a rental workspace and education center. They have a wood and metal shops, photo and jewelry studios, and classes ranging from beginner to advanced levels in everything from printmaking to electronics to their popular\u00a0upholstery class<\/a>. The most in-demand classes are offered somewhat often, but tend to fill up quickly.
