In a community long overlooked for creative infrastructure, a groundbreaking initiative is emerging\u2014one focused on innovation, opportunity, and unity. The Youth Design Center (YDC<\/a>), a Brooklyn nonprofit empowering young people through design and technology, has just unveiled The Corner by YDC, Brownsville\u2019s first-ever creative coworking, maker, and production hub.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, July 26, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the public is welcome to attend a hands-on Open House at 112 New Lots Avenue. Join in for youth-guided tours, engaging demonstrations, and a lively celebration highlighting the impact of creativity on community growth.<\/p>\n

A Home Grown by and for Brownsville
\nThe Corner serves not only as a workspace\u2014it is a creative epicenter for technologists, entrepreneurs, and local artists, enabling them to realize their dreams within their own neighborhood. Memberships provide access to a Media Lab, Fabrication Lab, private meeting areas, and equipment for content creation and entrepreneurship.
\n\u201cGrowing up in Brownsville, I longed for a space like this,\u201d shared Quardean Lewis-Allen, Founder and Executive Director of YDC. \u201cWe\u2019ve taken a vacant storefront and turned it into a haven for innovation and economic mobility, proving that local youth and creatives deserve premier spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turning Ideas into Impact
\nLewis-Allen, Harvard-educated architect and Brownsville native, launched Youth Design Center in 2013 to bridge design and technology careers for youth in underserved communities. The Corner expands YDC\u2019s reach, equipping over 300 youth and adult creatives annually with top-tier resources and collaborative space.
\nThis launch was made possible thanks to Brooklyn Org, Comic Relief US, Comcast NBCUniversal, and the support of NYC Councilmember Chris Banks, who funded essential equipment.
\n\u201cOur partners\u2019 dedication made this a reality,\u201d said Lewis-Allen. \u201cTogether, we\u2019re building more than space\u2014we\u2019re making an equitable future.\u201d<\/p>\n
