BRIC<\/a>, a leading arts and media institution will celebrate a decade of jazz with\u00a0BRIC JazzFest 2024<\/a>\u00a0from Oct. 17 – 19.<\/p>\n

Marking a milestone decade of musical innovation and discover, the\u00a0festival promises an unparalleled celebration of jazz music\u00a0at the\u00a0BRIC House<\/a>, according to a press release.<\/p>\n

The 10th anniversary edition, themed\u00a0A Decade of Discovery,<\/em>\u00a0honors\u00a0BRIC\u00a0JazzFest’s legacy of spotlighting and showcasing exceptional jazz talent. This year’s marathon event features an eclectic mix of jazz legends, contemporary innovators\u00a0and rising stars, offering audiences a comprehensive snapshot of the genre’s past, present\u00a0and future.<\/p>\n

“BRIC JazzFest’s 10th anniversary is a testament to our unwavering commitment to showcasing the very best in jazz, from established icons to the rising stars who will shape the genre’s future,” said\u00a0Viviana Benitez, BRIC JazzFest Senior Producer.\u00a0“<\/strong>This year’s festival is a celebration of a decade of discovery, and we’re thrilled to share this extraordinary musical journey with Brooklyn and the world.”<\/p>\n

There will be 18 live performances, with six bands taking the stage each evening over three nights. The festival starts Thursday, Oct.\u00a017, with NEA Jazz Master\u00a0Gary Bartz<\/a>\u00a0headlining alongside harpist\u00a0Brandee Younger<\/a>. The opening night also features genre-defying drummer\u00a0Kassa Overall<\/a>, rising star\u00a0Josh Johnson<\/a>, and emerging talents\u00a0Milena Casado<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mali Obomsawin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Friday, Oct.\u00a018, features performances by cutting-edge drummer and producer\u00a0Makaya McCraven<\/a>, followed by jazz luminary\u00a0Terri Lyne Carrington<\/a>. The evening continues with innovative alto saxophonist\u00a0Caroline Davis<\/a>\u00a0and percussionist\u00a0Daniel Villarreal<\/a>, promising a night of boundary-pushing jazz.<\/p>\n

The festival reaches its crescendo on Saturday, Oct.\u00a019, with a lineup that spans the full spectrum of contemporary jazz. Highlights include powerhouse saxophonist\u00a0Lakecia Benjamin<\/a>, jazz elder statesman\u00a0Reggie Workman<\/a>, trumpeter\u00a0Amir Elsaffar<\/a>, known for his unique fusion of jazz and Iraqi maqam, and performances by Australian neo-soul artist\u00a0Allysha Joy<\/a>\u00a0and Afro-Cuban jazz master\u00a0Joaquin Pozo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The festival culminates with a special jam session\u00a0 honoring the legacy of jazz drummer\u00a0Casey Benjamin<\/a>\u00a0curated by a well known NYC party and live music experience called\u00a0The Jungle,<\/em>\u00a0a collaboration of DJs, musicians\u00a0and artists delivering a stimulating sonic experience that traverses the African Diaspora, embracing Latin, Jazz, Afrobeat, Amapiano, Percussion, Brazilian, Caribbean, House and Soul.<\/p>\n

Acclaimed harpist\u00a0Brandee Younger\u00a0is the festival’s 2024 Artist Curator. Younger’s journey with BRIC JazzFest, from a rising star in 2015 to this year’s curator, embodies the festival’s commitment to nurturing and elevating jazz talent, the press release said.<\/p>\n
