The<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25175491\/mayor-eric-adams-indictment.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0indictment<\/a>, unsealed on Thursday morning, said the charges go back to when he was Brooklyn Borough President.<\/p>\n<p>At a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bkreader.com\/policy-government\/mayor-indicted-on-bribery-consipiracy-fraud-soliciting-illegal-foreign-campaign-funds-9575885\">news conference<\/a>\u00a0in front of Gracie Mansion on mid-morning Thursday, the mayor said he will not resign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy day to day will not change,\u201d he said. \u201cI ask New Yorkers to wait and hear our defense before making any judgments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn residents had mixed feelings upon hearing the indictment news.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure figure-l\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/image_50414337.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"image_50414337\" \/><figcaption>Flatbush resident Pauline Sawney. Photo: Asar John<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTo tell you the honest truth I think he\u2019s been doing a proper job,\u201d said Flatbush resident and team sales associate Pauline Sawney, adding that criticism of the mayor often seems race related.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI personally believe the indictment isn\u2019t going anywhere far\u2014 let\u2019s face it, everybody is corrupted in this country. And if he\u2019s doing a good job why try to indict him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connie Coleman from Kensington said she was surprised with the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought he was doing a decent job, that he was on the up-and-up,\u201d Coleman, 77, said.<\/p>\n<p>But the retired teacher said she is giving him a chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll find out if what he did was legal or illegal,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it\u2019s really too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure figure-l\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/img_4647.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"img_4647\" \/><figcaption>Connie Coleman. Photo: Kaya Laterman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Emily Kane of Prospect Park South said the constant headlines of top officials and possible federal indictments were confusing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to keep track of who\u2019s being accused of what,\u201d the 35-year-old musician said.<\/p>\n<p>That said, now that the mayor himself has been indicted, she will take more time to learn about what\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I can say is that it doesn\u2019t look good for the mayor,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mekhi Norman said he also needed to learn more.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure figure-l\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/image_50427649.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"image_50427649\" \/><figcaption>Brooklyn College student Mekhi Norman. Photo: Asar John<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMost things I\u2019ve heard about him were really negative, and it\u2019s definitely encouraged me to do more research about him,\u201d said the Brooklyn College student. \u201cIf those charges were to be true, he would deserve what\u2019s coming to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norman, 18, said he would be inclined to vote for someone else if Adams were to run again in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Kensington resident Marlene Siegel said she saw the indictment coming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last few weeks have been one thing after another, so it\u2019s been very stressful,\u201d said Siegel, who noted she was in her mid-70s.<\/p>\n<p>She was curious to see whether Governor Kathy Hochul would do anything to make Adams resign.<\/p>\n<p>The New York City Charter gives the governor the power to remove a mayor, according to the\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/25\/nyregion\/impeach-adams-governor-ny-city-charter.html\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Times<\/a>. Hochul could suspend Adams for up to 30 days and then remove him \u201cafter service upon him of a copy of the charges and an opportunity to be heard in his defense,\u201d the paper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I will not be voting for him next year,\u201d Siegel said.<\/p>\n<p>Russell Adler, owner of\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flintts.com\/pages\/start?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=paid&amp;utm_campaign=17854062138&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_term=&amp;gadid=&amp;tw_source=google&amp;tw_adid=&amp;tw_campaign=17854062138&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwjNS3BhChARIsAOxBM6rMkheXM7UBK4n05iQbsbbew7QD7mWJj1eoklEd0VUetJhGm7kZDgUaAvBuEALw_wcB\" rel=\"noopener\">Flintts Mints<\/a>\u00a0in Greenpoint, said he voted for Adams in 2021 but felt the mayor\u2019s Wednesday evening address gave him \u201can inkling he is probably guilty of something.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure figure-r\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/img_1978.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"img_1978\" \/><figcaption>Russell Adler. Photo: Owen Lavine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHis little sound bite that \u2018I knew that if I fought for the people of New York, they\u2019d come for me\u2019&#8211; I don\u2019t like that conspiratorial stuff,\u201d Adler explained.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old added that New Yorkers probably aren\u2019t in shock considering \u201cwe got a governor who resigned, and now a mayor who either will be forced to resign or resign of his own free will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery Democrat in the country knows it gets harder with every new candidate that they put on our plate,\u201d Adler added.<\/p>\n<p>Citrine Ghraowi, a 29-year-old designer living in Bushwick, said the news of Adams\u2019 indictment was \u201cpleasant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not very surprised, I\u2019m not also a very big fan of Eric Adams either,\u201d Ghraowi said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/img_1979.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"img_1979\" \/><figcaption>Citrine Ghraowi. Photo: Owen Lavine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She said he didn\u2019t appear to be a good person, and did not agree with the mayor\u2019s support of the Police Department and for Israel over Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, Ghraowi said she was upset over Adams\u2019 handling of the Sutter Avenue L train\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bkreader.com\/in-other-brooklyn-news\/nypd-releases-video-of-brownsville-subway-shooting-9559298\">shooting<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s constantly on the side of police\u2026 I think there\u2019s a lot of people who want him out,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure figure-l\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"file-3780529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vmcdn.ca\/f\/files\/bkreader\/images\/img_1981.JPG;w=960\" alt=\"img_1981\" \/><figcaption>Don Gobi.
