Our list does not consider the Deluxe version of albums and is not inclusive of EPs or Mixtapes.\u00a0 Here are the <strong>Today\u2019s Hip Hop 2021 Top Ten Rap Albums<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>10.) <\/strong><em>Gold Mouf <\/em><strong>\u2013 Lute <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: Gold Mouf\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/25RBY2x2erTNYeNQxgs47k?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>October 4<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Dreamville Records &amp; Interscope Records<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Cozz, BJ the Chicago Kid, Ari Lennox, JID, Saba, Westside Boogie<\/p>\n<p>Releasing an album under the name of his alter ego, Lute\u2019s second studio album is oozing with the golden touch of his label.\u00a0 With features from label mates Cozz, Ari Lennox, and JID, and largely produced by J.Cole, <em>Gold Mouf <\/em>\u00a0is another example of Dreamville\u2019s inability to ever miss.<\/p>\n<p>In a year where lyrical hip-hop really fought to regain center stage, Lute\u2019s offering did not disappoint.\u00a0 Strong beat selection, an ear for hooks, and the expected introspective lyricism make <em>Gold Mouf <\/em>a great listen.\u00a0 While Lute may lack the high-end potential of label mates like Bas, JID, Earthgang, and Cozz, he is always consistent, and this album was no different.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>GED<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>Birdsong<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>9.) <\/strong><em>Pray for Haiti <\/em><strong>\u2013 Mach-Hommy <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: Pray For Haiti\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/7doW9YWOtpmqHBqAUuBaKO?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>May 21<sup>st<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Griselda Records<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Westside Gunn, Tha God Fahim<\/p>\n<p>Through unique vocals, and effortless soundscapes, Haitian emcee Mach-Hommy reunited with Griselda and Westside Gunn with superb results.\u00a0 Mach\u2019s versatility and willingness to embrace different styles are more prominent than ever on this project, and it is clear he is an artist becoming more and more comfortable with vulnerable song writing.<\/p>\n<p>Griselda, as a label, is notorious for impeccable production and post-production value, and <em>Pray for Haiti<\/em> is no different. As always, the instrumentation sets the stage for Hommy to thrive, and he takes full advantage.\u00a0 Few projects this year are more cohesive, well-rounded, and representative of artistic growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>The 26<sup>th<\/sup> Letter, Folie A Deux <\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>8.) <\/strong><em>Anywhere But Here <\/em><strong>\u2013 Nyck Caution<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: Anywhere But Here\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/2BzBkJKGJa85HT4ECrIC7F?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>January 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Pro Era<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, Kota the Friend, CJ Fly<\/p>\n<p>Anytime Pro Era drops music, true hip hop heads are put on notice.\u00a0 The problem is, for the most part, the crew has been relatively quiet \u2013 it\u2019s been two years since Joey\u2019s last album, and while Chuck Strangers, CJ Fly, and Powers Pleasant all put out music this year, it was Nyck Caution who caught most people\u2019s attention with a somber, star-ridden project.<\/p>\n<p>Caution\u2019s debut solo album starts in a heartbreaking place, detailing the death of his father.\u00a0 <em>Anywhere but Here<\/em> is true to its name, looking at bleakness and hardship through the thorough writing of Caution\u2019s lyricism, often in a way that transcends space and time.\u00a0 Features from collective mates Joey Bada$$ and CJ Fly, supplemented by strong guest verses from Kota the Friend and Denzel Curry only add to the depth and nuance of Caution\u2019s strong offering.\u00a0 The production is soulful, often bordering on the classic boom bap and jazz-based vibes which have always greatly appealed to Pro Era fans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>How you Live it, Product of my Environment \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>7.) <\/strong><em>The Melodic Blue <\/em><strong>\u2013 Baby Keem<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: The Melodic Blue\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/3r46DPIQeBQbjvjjV5mXGg?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>September 10<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Columbia Records<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Kendrick Lamar, Don Toliver, Travis Scott<\/p>\n<p>Keem further progressed his rise to ascension with a highly successful debut studio album.\u00a0 Obviously, drawing on features from Cousin Kendrick doesn\u2019t hurt, but this album irrefutably stands on its own merit.\u00a0 One of Baby Keem\u2019s best features, and one this album showcases readily is the fact that no two songs sound alike.\u00a0 Diverse production, vocal tendencies, and topics lead to a varied presentation of interesting songs, that, mesh very well.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Melodic Blue<\/em> was a monumental leap forward for the Las Vegas artist, as it displayed a song writing prowess, that has not always been apparent. Tackling difficult topics such as addiction, familial relationships, and the difficulties of maneuvering in a sexualized society.\u00a0 This new-found side of Keem is what cemented him on our list and lead us to name him one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/todayshiphop.com\/year-in-review-2021-top-five-breakout-rappers\/\">top 5 breakout artists of 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>Booman, Family Ties \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>6.) <\/strong><em>Call me if you Get Lost <\/em><strong>\u2013 Tyler, The Creator <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/45ba6QAtNrdv6Ke4MFOKk9?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>June 25<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Columbia Records<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne, Pharell Williams, Lil Uzi Vert, DJ Drama<\/p>\n<p>A true balance of early, inventive Tyler, and the warmer, deeper sounds of later records, for many, <em>Call me if you Get Lost <\/em>will be the rap album of the year. It is unconventional, playful, smart and insightful.\u00a0 DJ Drama\u2019s interludes function almost as a narration to the project, and gives a listener nostalgia for the mixtape era.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler has always had fun using alter-egos and imagined characters to progress his writing, but in this project, it almost feels as if he is admitting they are fiction, or at least all different facets of what makes him who he is.\u00a0 Perhaps it took an album with this kind of range to put all those pieces together like a puzzle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>Wilshire, Massa <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5.) <\/strong><em>Folarin II <\/em><strong>\u2013 Wale <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: Folarin II\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/1GyvDV1vj6x3GH61CNRv3H?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>October 22<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Maybach Music Group<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>J.Cole<strong>, <\/strong>Rick Ross, Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, Maxo Kream<\/p>\n<p>Folarin II is a brilliant blend of up tempo, fun joints, and Wale\u2019s trademark Go-go influenced.\u00a0 The DMV rapper had been showing signs of reemergence, and <em>Folarin II <\/em>truly felt like a make-or-break project in an up and down career.\u00a0 Wale has always showcased a masterful talent of moving rapidly through subject matters (even during a track), and the ability to shift moods, feel and subject, all while remaining unified is the ultimate result of this latest offering.<\/p>\n<p>While the features are prominent, and the production is impeccable, <em>Folarin II <\/em>does an excellent job at maintaining Wale at the forefront of all songs, their shape, and their feel.\u00a0 While Wale has long since (and often publicly) expressed disappointment regarding a lack of coverage from the mainstream music media, <em>Folarin II <\/em>was largely well received, and is hopefully a sign of more to come from one of raps most talented poets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>Caramel, Down South \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4.) <\/strong><em>King\u2019s Disease II <\/em><strong>\u2013 Nas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: King&amp;apos;s Disease II\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/6CM5qhYBvpgYNek5kYwuOJ?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>August 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Mass Appeal<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Lauryn Hill, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, YG, Eminem, Hit-Boy<\/p>\n<p>Hit-Boy\u2019s superb production once again draws the curtains on Nas and his superb command of lyricism and mic presence.\u00a0 The sequel to 2020 rebound album King\u2019s Disease, the second iteration is set in a similar mode, but presents an even fuller sample of a classic Nas sound, and how he can translate it to the modern hip hop landscape.\u00a0 Utilizing a producer from today\u2019s sound and juxtaposing that with the vintage flow of the 90s produces a sound that is timeless, cohesive, and rich.\u00a0 Nas showcases the skillset that has made him one of the most beloved rappers of all time but is not held down by Nostalgia.\u00a0 This is a record that shows true progression, which is remarkable coming from a legend.<\/p>\n<p>Strong features, especially a stunning performance from Ms. Layryn Hill solidify <em>King\u2019s Disease II <\/em>as one of the strongest records from 2021, and another feather in the cap of one of the greatest to ever step to the mic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>Nobody, Store Run <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3.) <\/strong><em>To Kill a Sunrise <\/em><strong>\u2013 Kota the Friend \u2219 Statik Selektah<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: To Kill A Sunrise\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/0inJD6mDF0x5zIAv774uE2?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>March 19<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Independent\/<a href=\"https:\/\/fltbys.com\/\">Fltbys<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Statik Selektah<\/p>\n<p>Kota the Friend continued to blossom in 2021 with the warm, self-help style lyricism that has propelled the independent sensation into a place of true stardom.\u00a0 Pairing his forward, forthright style with Statik Selektah\u2019s golden age production added a certain edge to this project, where as Kota self-produced albums feel a bit warmer and more intimate.\u00a0 There is no better or worse style for Kota, and he thrives on the Statik production, perhaps adopting a bit more of a surgical style of flow and delivery than we\u2019ve ever seen from the Brooklyn rapper before.<\/p>\n<p>If you are looking at pure bars, <em>To Kill a Sunrise<\/em> might be Kota\u2019s best work to date.\u00a0 With great punchlines, complex multis, and more flow switch ups than usual, it is obvious that he is a perfectionist, constantly honing his craft to reach better results.\u00a0 With that in mind, there is true affection on this album too; the song <em>Go Now <\/em>is a gorgeous love song, contrasted with the ferocity of previous songs such as <em>Wolves <\/em>and <em>The Cold<\/em>.\u00a0 Kota the Friend truly does not miss, and <em>To Kill a Sunrise <\/em>is another classic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>Wolves, The Cold <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2.) <\/strong><em>The Off-Season<\/em><strong> \u2013 J.Cole <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: The Off-Season\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/4JAvwK4APPArjIsOdGoJXX?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date: <\/strong>May 14<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Label: <\/strong>Dreamville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features: <\/strong>Bas, 6LACK, 21 Savage, Morray, Lil Baby<\/p>\n<p>J.Cole has remained true to his identity as an insightful philosopher, and rap\u2019s poet laureate, but refocused that through the lens of a modern rap sound.\u00a0 With elements of trap, the old school bars that propelled him to stardom and even a Cam\u2019ron cameo, <em>The Off-Season <\/em>is another pillar in a career that will go down as one of the best in the history of rap.<\/p>\n<p>J.Cole has always rapped with a dim vision of reality, but with an air of optimism that things will improve, and on this album, his pairings with 21 Savage, Morray and Lil Baby lighten his burden with playful, less sophisticated features.\u00a0 <em>The Off-Season <\/em>maintains Cole\u2019s high attention to meaning, while allowing a bit more freedom for the rapper to focus on a more explosive, high-energy feel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Tracks: <em>the.climb.back, amari <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1.) <\/strong><em>The House is Burning<\/em><strong> \u2013 Isaiah Rashad <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: The House Is Burning\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" style=\"[object Object]\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay;
