St Francis Athletics<\/a><\/p>\n

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The St. Francis College Brooklyn men’s basketball team (4-6, 4-5 NEC) put forth a valiant come-from-behind effort, but fell to Wagner (4-5, 4-4 NEC), 84-81, in overtime on Friday. The Terriers erased a 14-point first half deficit to force overtime, but were narrowly edged the Seahawks in the extra frame.<\/p>\n

After Wagner controlled the first half, the Terriers stormed back in the second half, locked in, and forced overtime by outscoring the Seahawks, 47-33, in the frame. St. Francis opened up the second half on a 7-0 run over the first 2:05 of the stanza. From there, the Terriers continued to chip away at the Seahawks’ lead as the teams went back and forth over the course of the second half.<\/p>\n

The Terriers had four players score in double figures and were led by sophomore guard\u00a0Larry Moreno<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0who scored a career-high 21 points coming off the bench. Moreno was the driving force behind the Terriers’ comeback effort as 18 of his 21 points came in the second half or overtime.<\/p>\n

St. Francis and Wagner traded buckets down the stretch. Every time the Seahawks tried to pull away, the Terriers punched right back. With 3:56 to play in the second half, sophomore guard\u00a0Rob Higgins<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0knocked down a three-pointer to cut Wagner’s lead to 59-58. Wagner would retake a four-point lead, until Moreno knocked down a crucial three-pointer of his own with 2:24 to play to make it 63-62.<\/p>\n

Moreno later drilled a three-ball to put the Terriers up 67-66 with 47 seconds to play. Wagner would retake the lead with 20 seconds to go after Delonnie Hunt converted a three-pointer of his own to put Wagner back on top, 69-67. On the following possession, Muenkat tied the game up with seven seconds to go as he grabbed an offensive rebound on his initial shot attempt and made a layup that sent the game to overtime.<\/p>\n

Moreno dominated the overtime period as he scored eight points on 3-of-3 shooting from the floor. The Terriers and Seahawks traded buckets over the course of the overtime stanza, but Wagner was able to prevail after graduate guard\u00a0Unique McLean<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0missed a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer.<\/p>\n
