The Cardiac Clones staged yet another late game rally, but couldn’t come up with the victory on Thursday night, falling 5–4 at Aberdeen. Brooklyn came back from a three-run deficit to keep things interesting down the stretch. <\/p>\n
IronBirds starter Keegan Akin pitched three perfect innings and got a bit of run support from his offense in the fourth. Cole Billingsley started things with a single, then stole second and advanced to third on an Austin Hays single. Preston Palmeiro scored both runners with a deep triple to right. Brooklyn starter Gabriel Llanes didn’t help his own cause with a wild pitch to score Palmeiro as the IronBirds went up 3-0. <\/p>\n
The Cyclones got the three runs right back in the fifth against Xavier Borde. Brandon Brosher led off the inning with a home run – Brooklyn’s first hit of the night. Arnaldo Berrios reached base on an error by Kirvin Mosequit and the Cyclones seized the opportunity to plate more runs. Michael Paez cracked a double to score both runs and knot the game at three. <\/p>\n
Aberdeen took back the lead in the sixth. A pair of singles put runners on the corners with one out. Alejandro Juvier doubled to center, giving Aberdeen a 4–3 lead and ending Llanes’ night. Mike Odenwaelder’s groundout to short against Jordan Humphreys brought in an insurance run.<\/p>\n
In five-and-one-third-innings, Llanes gave up five runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking none. He dropped to 4–8 with a 3.94 earned run average.<\/p>\n
The Cyclones cut the lead in half in the eighth. Desmond Lindsay worked a walk against IronBirds reliever Ryan Moseley, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Colby Woodmamsee’s single. Moseley escaped further trouble, striking out Brosher to end the inning.<\/p>\n
Moseley pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out Franklin Correa to end the game.<\/p>\n
The 35-37 Cyclones take on the a IronBirds on Friday at 7:05 pm. <\/p>\n
UPS AND DOWNS <\/p>\n
Looking for arms in the final week, the Cyclones called up right-handed pitchers Jordan Humphreys and Gregorix Esteves from Kingsport.<\/p>\n
Esteves pitched two-thirds of an inning on Thursday.<\/p>\n
