Brooklyn’s late-season slump continued on Saturday night as the Cyclones dropped an 8–2 tilt at Williamsport, falling under .500. The Clones made four errors in the loss. <\/p>\n
Williamsport took a first-inning lead against Brooklyn starter Gabriel Llanes. Luke Maglich singled, moved to third on David Martinelli’s single and scored on Darick Hall’s sacrifice fly. <\/p>\n
In the second, Chandler Hall singled with two outs and came around to score from first when Evan Rogers smacked a ball to third. A Blake Tiberi throwing error helped Hall ease into home – the first of several fielding miscues for Brooklyn. <\/p>\n
In the third, Darick Hall hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 4–0.<\/p>\n
Brooklyn got on the board in the fourth as Gene Cone scored on a passed ball, but Williamsport responded with two in the fifth. Derrick Hall doubled in a run and then came in to score on a Brett Barbier single.<\/p>\n
Llanes fell to 4–7, giving up six runs on 10 hits over six innings.<\/p>\n
Williamsport starter Felix Paulino held Brooklyn to just one run on two hits in six innings of work.<\/p>\n
The Crosscutters scored a pair of unearned runs off Austin McGeorge in the eighth.<\/p>\n
Tiberi’s run-scoring single in the ninth plated Cone – who collected two of Brooklyn’s five hits – but it was too little, too late as the Cyclones once again struggled to put bat on ball.<\/p>\n
Tyler Hallead pitched the final three innings for the Crosscutters, giving up one run on three hits.<\/p>\n
Brooklyn will look to take the rubber match in Williamsport on Sunday.<\/p>\n
UPS AND DOWNS <\/p>\n
Michael Paez committed his eighth error of the season as he is still learning to play second base.<\/p>\n
Now away from Coney Island, the Cyclones are playing quickly, with Saturday’s finishing in just over two-and-a-half hours.<\/p>\n
