The Cardiac Clones were due for a blowout. The Cyclones pitching staff was shelled, but the offense didn’t provide much help either, connecting on just three hits in a 15–2 drubbing at the hands of Batavia on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The Muckdogs didn’t waste much time as J.J. Gould tagged Brooklyn starter Erik Manoah for a three-run homer in the first.<\/p>\n
The fun continued for Batavia in the second as Aaron Knapp’s two-out single scored Kris Goodman. Eric Gutierrez followed with a two-run double to make it 6–0.<\/p>\n
In the fourth, with two on and nobody out, Corey Bird’s single – plus Jacob Zanon’s error – scored another Muckdogs run. With Raul Jacobson on the mound, Joseph Chavez singled in two runs as the lead ballooned to 9–0. Manoah was charged with nine runs in three-and- one-third innings.<\/p>\n
Batavia starter Jordan Holloway struck out the side in the first and things didn’t get much better for a Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
The Cyclones were, however, able to avoid the shutout. Brooklyn loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth on two walks and a single, but Holloway struck out Arnaldo Berrios and Darryl Knight for the first two outs.<\/p>\n
Hengelbert Rojas hit a grounder to short, but an error by Gould scored two runs and kept the inning alive.<\/p>\n
It also ended the night for Holloway as Batavia manager Angel Espada went to the bullpen as Holloway left one out shy of qualifying for the win.<\/p>\n
Trenton Hill got Zanon to groundout to end the inning.<\/p>\n
The Muckdogs continued the onslaught in the sixth as Gutierrez hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 11–2.<\/p>\n
Batavia scored two runs off Gabriel Feliz in the seventh and two more off Joseph Zanghi in the eighth. <\/p>\n
The 9–11 Cyclones have Thursday off before returning to Coney Island for a Friday night game against Hudson Valley.<\/p>\n
UPS AND DOWNS <\/p>\n
Ali Sanchez, Blake Tiberi and Arnaldo Berrios had the three hits for Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
After all the marathons, this game was finished in just under three hours. Not bad for a game with 17 runs scored.<\/p>\n
