The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced postseason awards Thursday, with Brooklyn College seniors Aaron Siu named Second Team All-Conference and Tylar Pina selected to the Sportsmanship Team. The pair’s key contributions helped the Bulldogs finish 14-8 and reach the CUNYAC Championship Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals.
Brooklyn College closed its season with recognition from the CUNYAC on Thursday as senior outside hitter Aaron Siu and senior utility player Tylar Pina collected postseason honors. Siu’s All-Conference selection and Pina’s Sportsmanship Team nod cap a season in which the Bulldogs logged a 14-8 overall record and advanced to the conference quarterfinals.
Game Highlights
Siu finished the year as Brooklyn’s offensive engine, posting 164 kills to rank eighth in the conference while pacing his team in that category. He also chipped in 127 digs, second-best on the Bulldogs, and stood out on serve with 46 aces — placing him third in the CUNYAC. His best single-match output came Jan. 22 versus St. Joseph’s Brooklyn, when he produced a season-high 17 kills, three aces and nine digs.
Standout Performances
Pina, a three-year program member, saw his role expand this season and worked into Brooklyn’s regular rotation, appearing in a career-high 32 sets. He matched a single-match career-best with five kills in the meeting against Medgar Evers as he carved out a steady supporting role late in his Bulldog tenure.
Why This Matters For Brooklyn and NYC
College Sports Recognition from the CUNYAC underscores the strength of Brooklyn’s senior class and its place in the local college-athletics scene. Awards like these spotlight student-athletes competing in New York City college sports and help raise the program’s profile in recruiting and among area fans.
What’s Next for the Bulldogs
With Siu and Pina graduating, Brooklyn will look to replace production at outside hitter and depth in the rotation as it prepares for offseason recruiting and spring training. The Bulldogs’ 14-8 finish and quarterfinal appearance provide a platform for the program as it aims to remain competitive in CUNYAC play and around the NYC college sports landscape next season.
